This isn’t a food post, a picture post or an adventure post. It’s an ode-to-my-best-friend post.Tl;Not gonna read? I will return you to your regularly scheduled briefer ramblings later today.

Do you have a best friend? ‘Cause I do. Her name is AJ (not really, but that’s easier than saying “my friend” over and over). I’ve had good friends, great friends and other friends I have considered my “best friend.” But AJ is different. We met last November, and it was best-friends-at-first-sight. I already know we will be friends forever. Why? We are the same person. We text each other at exactly the same time:

And accidentally show up in the same outfit:

Yup, that happened for real. Didn’t even know she owned a similar shirt. I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to match your best friend after the age of 5.

We love the same books, the same shows and the same movies. But it’s more than shared interests. We can talk. About anything. I have shared stories, secrets and more with her that I haven’t told anyone else. And this is true for her as well. We always have fun, and I feel better about my self, my life and my quirks when I’m with her.

A Friend Night

I feel like something is missing if we go too many days without each other. So last night I got home from work and whipped up two batches of healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge (you know I couldn’t make a post without putting food in it somewhere). I took my fudge and a bottle of Gnarly Head zinfandel over to AJ’s, and we painted, drank and talked. And it was just what I needed.

I may be stressed from work or life, feel down about this or that or have lost a little confidence over the course of the week, but after an evening with AJ, it’s all good. I’ve never had a best friend like this before, and, while having a best friend means giving up some of the loner-life I value, it is worth it and more.

Who is your best friend? What is one of the many reasons why?
