I haven’t set specific, manageable goals in quite some time. I mean, obviously there’s one giant figure-competition goal hanging over me, but that is a pretty broad and fairly long-term goal. I need some smaller goals that are clear, measurable and doable. (Such as: Add relevant pictures to your next post, you boring text-based goon.)
The Fitness
- Stretch every day. Nothing fancy, it can just be five minutes at the end of the day, but it has to happen.
- Focus on my posture. This goal has appeared before, and it really helped to have it typed up/at the front of my mind. Darn you desk job, I’m fighting the slouch as best I can.
- Get some gym-related goals. A goal to get goals? Yes. My goal this month is to find clearer direction, set benchmarks for progress and, well, make progress!
The Female
- Buy a sofa. Yeah, you’ve seen this before. It’s going to happen this month. I can feel it.
- Get creative once a week. Arts, crafts, knitting, you name it: I’m going to make time for it.
- Read more. I’ve been so distracted by life, work and the things going on in my head that I haven’t been plowing through books with my usual dedication. I need that quiet reading space.
- Go somewhere new once a week. This can be as simple as stepping into a restaurant or store I’ve never been in, or it can involve a new event, venue or weekend trip. Just somewhere new! There’s so much in this city (much less state/country), and I’m almost embarrassed by how little of it I’ve seen.
The Food
- Eat enough. While I’m keeping my macros on track, my overall calorie consumption is down. I can feel it in my energy levels, and I know increasing the good food that I eat is going to help me improve and meet my goals in the gym.
- Try a new food each week. I used to do this, and it was always so much fun to wander the grocery store, research recipes and experience a new food.
- Try a new blog-found recipe each week. I pretty much do this weekly anyway, it’s nice to have a relaxing goal.
Have a favorite stretching routine or a food or recipe I should try? What are some of your goals for the month?

I am terrible about stretching. As in, I never do it. And I wonder why I’m so sore…
I also need to copy your blogger recipe goal. My Pinterest is out of control!
Yep, same. I sometimes stretch for a few seconds after leg day. Maybe. At most. But probably not. And three days later? My calves are still sore. I think my body’s telling me something…
Those are all well-planned goals. Good luck making them happen!
My goals for October: work up to 3 sub-9-minute miles on the treadmill, go to yoga at least 4 times, read at least two books, (finally) paint my bedroom and get caught up on a month’s worth of laundry. It’s gotta happen!
You can do it! Those sound like some great/achievable goals.
your food goals are very similar to mine, I need to start trying new foods and new recipes because I am in a major rut. I also like your getting creative one, i need to make my apartment feel like a home without those bare walls!
That’s how I’m feeling! It took six months, but now I’m desperate to cover up my walls/add a little homey-ness and personality.
Maybe it’s the changing seasons? I feel like everyone on the internet is in a food rut right now!
Stretching is what I always forget. I’m walking daily, but I always forget the stretching. I’ll have to remember from now on.
I love reading goal posts and I particularly like your goals to go somewhere new each week and to try a new food each week! They’re lovely goals to have
It’s so easy to just do the same thing all the time–and while I enjoy it, I know I’ll appreciate the “routine” even more if I also get myself into some new adventures.
Great goals, Allie! I especially love the one about going somewhere new once a week…I may have to steal that one! I haven’t made any concrete goals for the month yet except I am vowing to finally attend a spinning class at least once in October. I haven’t been in 2 years and keeping saying I will as I really do enjoy it as a running alternative!
Try putting an alarm reminder in your phone to stretch! I didn’t have time after my run yesterday morning so at 9pm, my phone went off to do the needful!
Oh my gosh–a stretching alarm! That is the best idea ever, setting one right now–7pm, a mat of the floor, and I have a date tonight ;D
a new food every week? you should totally be doing the Meatless Monday A-Z with us! so far many of the foods are some that I use, and use often… but this week was a new one for me!
I know, I’ve been slacking on MMAZ last week and this one! And I’ll be missing next as well…But jalapenos! You can bet I won’t miss that one–even if all I do is make one of your jalapeno margaritas
These goals look awesome! Do you stretch after every workout? I always do, or it’s Sore City for me.
Nope, I pretty much never stretch. Ever. Hence the reason this really needed to be a goal–maybe it’ll get me into the habit!
You will feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!!
I know–I used to be so good about stretching every night, just got out of the habit/came up with that “no time” excuse which really is just an excuse, there’s always 5 minutes for something.
Sounds busy but you got this! I just posted my October goals too. Rock October!
My goals for th emonth went from getting healthy again and enjoying my upcoming vacation to just surviving it! (see current post lol)
Sounds like your going to be busy as well…hope you survive Oct too!
I also love streching. I am now going to aqua gym 2x/ week & I am starting Yoga lessons tomorrow, for the very first time. I can’t wait!
These goals are STUPENDOUS!!! I especially love the crafty one, trying new foods, and “Go somewhere new once a week.” And I have a feeling you’re gonna find a wicked cool sofa too heehee
This ‘go somewhere new’ will result in ‘get a couch’ that will lead to ‘more reading.’ I can see it now!
I like how you think! It’s aaaaall connected…
I remember when you used to buy a new food each week! That was always fun because you bought the most interesting stuff
I had so much fun doing it, too! Time to bring it back…
Those are some AMAZING goals!!! I love the stretching goal because it is soooo important! I think it took me like, oh, my entire life until the last 4 months before I finally committed to stretching 6 days a week (God, did rest on the 7th day!
) And I love the crafty goal! You just reminded me to start crocheting again! I can’t wait to see some of the recipes you try out too!
Fall/winter=perfect for knitting and crocheting! I always forget about it all summer, too.
The Three F’s
Love it! I loved trying blogger recipes it honestly was my favorite series of posts. My goals for this Goaltober are to stop eating fruit past 4 pm as well as carbs, eat more egg whites, stretch everyday (me too), spend at least one day away from the internet a week so I can meditate and relax. Have an amazing October
Love and Shine CourtStar
Love the day away from the Internet goal! I need to take that time off more often too.
Loving your goals. I’m with you on the whole stretching more goal. I always seem to forget that little important factor after a LR. I know I know, it’s bad.. but i use my soreness as an excuse for the hubs to give me massage
If I had the massage option, I think I’d totally go for that instead too
I should have lots of goals…hmmm…guess I should work on them soon, huh?!
oooo stretching, I MUST Do it more, especially because I know how much my body benefits from it! Alright, time to stop being lazy about this, I am going to commit much more time
I didn’t make any goals, but I think the posture one is great. I may adopt it!
I love goals! Although I’m not doing very good on my own goals right now, trying to recommit every day even if it won’t be quite what I originally planned (getting sick really threw me off).
