Acacia, by David Anthony Durham

If you want epic fantasy, this is epic fantasy. Acacia is a giant book. It builds slowly and may not suck you in like other books can, but it sets a beautiful reading pace and develops a thick world of intrigue, nation-stealing and nation-building. It is only the first in a series, but it manages to conclude without leaving the reader feeling cheated or as if the only purpose of the book was to set you up for the next. I enjoyed this book, but readers looking for a  “fast” read might lose interest.
