A perfect New Year’s Eve involves:
Getting all your roommates to leave the house.
Spending the evening (in and without roommates) with your best friend.
A little of this:
Okay, these are the leftovers with some homemade lentil bread–the actual meal involved garlic naan, veggie pakoras, chana palak (chickpeas and spinach) and gobi manchurian gravy–all from my absolute favorite Indian restaurant.
A lot of this:
And some crappy horror movies served with these brownies. Holy cow, best brownie recipe I’ve made in a long, long time!
A perfect New Year’s Day involves:
Curling up in a pile of blankets and reading for hours.
Using my slow cooker and this basic recipe to make some beautiful homemade veggie broth:
Getting in my traditional New Year’s collards (with more lentil flat bread–you bet there’s a recipe coming for this simple amazingness):
Don’t forget to start the New Year right with some slow cooking fun, join (or check out!) JamieAnne’s and my bi-weekly slow cooker linkup:
That Indian food sounds delicious. I’m coming over for leftovers! 😉
Haha, unfortunately, the leftovers were gone by noon the next day…Indian food does not survive long around me, especially when it’s as delicious as that meal was…
Sounds like a perfect New Years Eve to me. Your food always looks so good and I’ll trust you that the brownies were delicious, they usually are. Happy New Year!
It IS hard to go wrong with brownies, especially when they include chocolate chips like those did…
That does sond like a delightful New Years to me! You know I went out and enjoyed it, but a night in with good food is always great too
Yeah, my friend and I waffled between the two all week, but by Saturday we were just ready to relax…
A slow cooker was one of those things that I didn’t think about wanting until after Christmas/ birthday… when people were no longer asking me what I wanted for my birthday/ Christmas! Maybe next year.
I drank way too much on New Years Eve… I still don’t want to look at alcohol.
Despite buying 3 bottles of wine…I somehow didn’t overimbibe. It helped that that first bottle was absolutely awful. It was way too sweet and tasted like grape juice that had gone off…
And slow cookers are cheeaap, you should buy yourself a treat ;D
The slow cooker link up looks like fun! I just used mine today. Is it on Mondays?
Every other Monday! You should definitely join in–and feel free to add old posts about slow cooking to the linkup too!
Looks like you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve!!
Sounds like a good time to me. 🙂 I can’t wait for the recipe!
I JUST recently heard about having collard’s for the New Year.. so weird! Everyone in PA eats sauerkraut and little sausages. Gross. I’d rather have greens 😉
Weird–I’ve never heard of eating either of those things on New Year’s, haha. Here it’s collard greens and black eyed peas. And purple grapes–but I kinda think my mom made that one up…
Oh wow! Homemade veggie broth!!! I’m lazy and just bought more veggie bullion cubes 😉 haha
Sounds like a fantastic new year’s to me 🙂 Especially the horror movies!!
It sounds like you did have the perfect New Year’s Day & Eve! That Indian food looks delicious, I’m dying to find a great Indian restaurant near me
I think that Indian restaurant is one of my favorite things about where I live, haha. It’s entirely vegetarian and very vegan-friendly on top of being absolutely amazing, so I can eat most of the dishes there, yum yum!
They say what you do on the first day of the year is a sign how the rest of your year will be like- looks like you’re in for a great 2012 🙂
may all your dreams come true this new year 🙂
Your NYE sounds so much better than mine! I spent it obscenely hung over (shame on me!) so the thought of food wasn’t even good. However, Indian food sounds absolutely awesome right now. The Hipcooks place has a new Indian class that I’d absolutely love to take!
Can’t wait for the lentil bread recipe!
I would love to really know how to make Indian food–beyond just throwing some spices in, because that never turns out quite the same. Oh well, until then there’s take out.
Can’t wait for the recipe for lentil flatbread. And I also adore Indian spinach dishes. Can’t go without! Another favorite is pathia, it’s kinda like an Indian version of a sweet and sour/spicy Chinese dish if that makes sense. So good.
Hmm, I’ve never heard of pathia–just checked out that restaurant’s menu to see if they have it, haha. But no luck. Oh well, I’ll keep an eye out for it, it sounds delish. The Gobi Manchurian gravy had something of a sweet and sour taste to it, might be similar.
