The Tiger’s Wife, by Tea Obreht

This book was okay. It was certainly well-written, had the elements of surreality that I love to find in a modern lit book and was rich in words and feeling. However…

I found it hard to stay engaged in this book. It was hard to get to know this main character, and, once I did, I didn’t particularly like or care about her. The Tiger’s Wife would have been better as a series of short stories–because it pretty much was a series of short stories. I loved each of the tangents into the past or into another person’s life and journey. It was the “story” tying it all together that I found weak and un-enthralling, and I skimmed through it to get to the next “short story” in the novel.
