Fact: It’s Friday.
Fact: I washed my hair last Friday. I haven’t washed it since.
Fact: Kristina is brilliant. Her recipes sound and look so good that I have to try them, and, while IĀ may not have a grill, it turns out that grilled broiled romaine lettuce is still pretty spectacular (as are her jalapeno margaritas).
Fact: There is something super-secret and super-awesome in my yard. Stay tuned for Monday!
Fact: I ate from my garden for the first time last night! I thinned my turnips and had some lovely sauteed young greens (with a side of non-homegrown raw beet slaw). It’s officially summer.
Fact: I’m excited to spend the weekend painting and cleaning up around the house. And maybe, maybe going furniture shopping (It would be nice to have a chair or two…).
Fact: I think this is what car cupholders were really designed to hold. Bell pepper plant, anyone?
Fact: It’s still Friday!
Have any great (big or small) weekend plans?
Grilled lettuce? You’re a brave one. I get squicked out by the texture of greens sometimes so I try to stick with raw or sauteed so they don’t get too crunchy or too smooshy.
Have fun furniture shopping! I’m going to Disney and I’m pumped!
Turns out the bravery paid off–I wasn’t sure I’d like cooked lettuce, but it comes out as a perfect balance of crispy roasted bits, soft on the outside, and still regular romaine crisp on the inside.
Ahh, I hope you had a GREAT time at Disney!
Oh man I’m stoked to hear about the mystery thing in your yard!! š Have fun shopping and painting this weekend, friend!
yaaay, you tried it! pretty great, right?
WHAAAT could it be!? I love surprises. I had one in my old yard… a crazy prehistoric looking plant called an Amorphophallus – or Voodoo Lily for us layman gardeners. I am going to miss it, it was gorgeous and tropical and… stinky!
sorry, I’m rambling. Happy Friday to yoooouuuuu!
Haha I went 4 days without washing my hair this week… I did use a little dry shampoo. I Swear it’s better for my hair!!!
That’s my excuse, too ;D I’m not lazy, I’m just keeping my hair healthy! And it really DOES look better/shinier/healthier when I finally do get around to washing it.
That’s so cool you ate from your garden already! Have a great weekend!
Walking in the Relay for Life tonight into tomorrow morning. Sunday we celebrate my sister Ele’s birthday! Have a great weekend, Allie! I agree about the cup holder~
Why is washing hair such a mission?! I really can’t be arsed with it half the time š
Being able to eat your own veg is so cool – but I want to know what’s in your garden!
It’s so much work! Especially if you’re going somewhere right after and have to blowdry it as well. Ugh. I’ll just go for the ponytail, please and thank you.
Yep, that’s my everyday hair, I can’t really call mine a style though š
Oh, and what I meant to put was, my colleague asked me today what I was doing this weekend and I just said: “Making ice cream.” Sums it up š
Aaaand I’m excited to hear about these ice cream adventures ;D
Grilled lettuce… hrmm I am intrigued Allie! I am excited to hear about your your super-awesome secret something in the yard
Fact- if I didn’t wash my hair since last friday, it would be a stringy gross mess haha
I was intrigued as well, that’s why I had to try! And it turned out to be worth the adventure (plus I had two heads of romaine that needed to be used right away or end up being tossed anyway)
I’ve heard of grilled romaine. It looks delicious.
I am insanely jealous of you being able to leave your hair for that long without washing it. Mine is an absolute grease pit and I usually have to wash it every day, though I can sometimes leave it 2 days if I’m lucky.
What does grilled lettuce taste like? Other than lettuce, obviously. What’s the texture like?
I definitely had the help of some cornstarch (aka the same thing as “dry shampoo,” but for less than a dollar rather than over ten dollars). It still tastes like lettuce (and I doused it in balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper, so those as well), but you get the crispy roasted bits combined with wilted (in a good way!) outer leaves, while the inside is still crisp like regular romaine but is slightly warm. It’s a combination of a lot of great textures that go well together–it’s definitely a unique way to eat a “salad”!
Awesome that you ate from your garden. Have a super weekend š
Can we trade hair please? Mine gets greasy so fast these days! I used to be able to go for days without washing it…damn heat! I need to try grilled lettuce- I don’t think I’ve ever tried warmed lettuce but I trust your word :)! Have a fab weekend, Allie !
You do need to give it a try! I was a little skeptical, but who am I to say no to a kitchen adventure?
It is great to know I am not the only one who doesn’t wash their hair very often! I can’t wait to read about the surprise in your yard! š
my hair gets WAY too sweaty during my workouts not to wash everyday!! The only time I dont wash it is when Im camping, Then its ball cap all day everyday!
I’ve had a grilled romaine salad at a restaurant and it was delicious. Fact, my garden has produced 2 snap peas and we all had a bite and they were so delicious I am hoping it produces a ton more.
Mmm, I love snap peas! Now I wish I’d planted some, haha.
jealous of your garden meal! i am moving at the end of the summer and one thing i really hope to do (i.e., i really hope my boyfriend does) is grow our own veggies and herbs! would be so wonderful….
You definitely should! It’s a lot less work than I expected, and it feels so good to be able to eat food I know I’ve grown myself.
My vote is that car cupholders were meant to hold ice cream, in a dish. Um, yes. š
Okay, that sounds like an even better use for cupholders than as a plant holder š
Ooh I’m excited to hear about the secret in your garden!! I love that you had your first homegrown veggie, it’s so nice to produce your own food š
I’m impressed that your hair holds out that long š If I leave my hair without washing it for longer than 3 days you wouldn’t believe how knotty it gets!
