Myth: I don’t bake. Busted: If anyone can convince me to open my oven and do more than slide in a pan of veggies to roast, it’s this girl. Her corn muffins? Amazing giant servings of tasty high-protein breakfast goodness.
Myth: Low-sodium high-protein almond milk is a dream come true. Busted: It tastes like gritty ass. I appreciate the try, (Not) So Delicious.
Myth: I can’t function without coffee. Busted: I’ve accidentally gone three days without. Can’t notice a difference. Other than the fact that my life has lacked tasty hot drinks in the morning.
Myth: Chopsticks are for Chinese food. Busted: I can and I will eat my spaghetti and tomato sauce with chopsticks.
Myth: I have numbed my coworkers to the presence of weird food at my desk.Β Busted: Apparently my breakfast of hemp flatbread and tofu dilly-dip was enough to turn heads yet again.Β Just wait ’til they see what’s for lunch…
Well, it’s a post somewhat lacking in veggies, my life or I-promise-house-pictures-are-coming, but there you have it–my (some of) What I Ate Wednesday.
I cannot work chop sticks for the life of me!! considering I’m part asian, I feel I’ve let myself down. LOL
God knows I’m truly useless in the kitchen (I can microwave pretty well..??) but I did once a upon a time enjoy baking!
Oh man, I can’t even microwave (especially not oatmeal–I cook it over every.single.time.). I’m pretty baller at the stovetop, but everything else is beyond me.
ooh OOH, house photos yesplease!!
I actually like that almond milk +… but I only really use it for cereal and in recipes…
hemp flatbread and dilly dip? I already had breakfast but that sounds GOOD.
I think I wouldn’t mind it in recipes, but I tried it plain and in coffee and just couldn’t handle it. It’s not carried at my grocery store anymore either, so I guess they were just trying it out around here.
And oh man, that combo is totally worth a second breakfast. Or third.
Haha, you clever girl this post was awesome. I love cornmeal, anything with it I know is going to be good, I would love to make high protein corn muffins. As for the milk I haven’t seen that at my grocer but I’ll take your word and pass on it. As for the weird food, I’ve done that so much people just expect it, especially my kiddos.
I thought my coworkers had hit that “just expect the weird” point, but apparently this morning was something worth commenting on. I see nothing odd about with green things dipped in tofu π
Myth: I can eat a dozen donuts in one sitting Busted: It is more like two
Love the post, I agree with you about the almond milk…and apparently it has carrageenan in it that has been known to be bad, including recommendations to not give it to infants. Also studies on “rats, guinea pigs, and monkeys indicates that degraded carrageenan (poligeenan) may cause ulcerations in the gastro-intestinal tract and gastro-intestinal cancer” Wikipedia reference…and other bad stuff…may be worth looking into if you are drinking it for health purposes…
Mmm, donuts. And ew, is that all almond milk, or just the high-protein version?
You do the best themed posts! I love it. Good to know about that almond milk. That would make me so sad to open up something with so much potential and then it be gross… Also, you’re making me want to invest in some chopsticks! They are really fun to eat with!
It was definitely a disappointment. I finished off the carton, but had to hide it in baked goods. Now I know! And yup, chopsticks made food way too much fun, especially if it’s not traditional chopstick-requiring food.
hahaha my friends totally find my food weird no matter how often i bring it!
You’d think people would get used to weird food, right??
Hahah milk that tastes like ass- now doesnβt that sound delightful βΊ! I am so glad you posted about the chopsticks! I saw you instaβd that pic and couldnβt make out what the dish was because I saw sauce β¦but then I was convinced it couldnβt be Italian given the utensils haβ¦chopsticks are clearly multinational!
Haha, there I go, spreading confusion in my wake! I think that just means I’m eating weird food right…or right food weird?
And how do you know what gritty ass tastes like?
I love that you use chopsticks. I think I would get frustrated and just eat with my hands and that bowl of pasta definitely looks eat-with-my-hands worthy.
What is it with the side looks from coworkers lately? Oh wait, they think our food is odd. Whatever.
A lady never reveals her secrets.
And I totally do the eat-with-my-hands when it comes to salad. How can anyone eat salad with a fork?? It’s a skill I just don’t have–there’s no tidy way to get lettuce to mouth via fork!
Fun post! Glad I didn’t buy the So Delicious Almond Milk . . . I’m not a big fan of gritty ass. π
I totally want to use chopsticks for more than when I eat sushi!! I just never think about it. I’ve got to set some out on my kitchen counter and give it a whirl!
It really isn’t the most desirable flavor/texture combo, go figure π I always forget about chopsticks too, but then I find them in my drawer and use them for everything for a week straight.
keep turning heads because boy does that sound good.
The muffins sound wonderful! I must try them. Need to get all the goodies!
They have cottage cheese–I know you share my love for the stuff, and it is so good and moist in muffins!
Whoa. Chopsticks … I thought you were going in a different direction and I was nodding my head in agreement before I’d finished the sentence. I thought you were going to say using chopsticks sucks/is shit/whatever, but no. You love them!! I hate them so much. Even when I eat Chinese I’m like, WHERE’S MY FORK.
Wait–are we disagreeing about something? I’m not sure how I feel about this. Well, I’ll keep my chopsticks and you can keep your Kenny Chesney π And I promise I’ll provide forks when you come visit Nashville next!
I’ve given up trying to get my coworkers to understand my food choices. This year I work by myself in a little office room, so they don’t usually see what I’m eating. π
I eat salad with chopsticks. I’ve actually converted a number of people to this. It’s just so much more fun. I also use it to eat drippy nut butter. Dip and lick. Stir and lick. Dip and lick. Repeat. And repeat. And repeat…
Unfortunately/fortunately, I work in a huge open room. Fortunate, ’cause I love the light and space, unfortunate because everyone gets to smell/ogle/comment on whatever food I bring in. And salad with chopsticks? This needs to happen.
I like the idea of using chopsticks with pasta. It might take me hours to finish my meal though because I feel like the noodles would be so slippery but hey, probably a good thing to slow down the meal!
It’s definitely not the most polite way to eat spaghetti, but it makes it extra fun!
I’m with you on eating with chopsticks. I eat things with chopsticks whenever I have an excuse to. It’s just so much fun!
Thanx for warning us about the high protein almond milk π
I like the idea of this post! Great “busts” and “truths.” That protein almond milk is pure disgusting. I only used it before because I liked the stats. Mixing it with other food makes it okay, but honestly? If I want protein I’ll eat something else thank you very much. π
Glad it’s not just me that found it gross! And yeah, I used up the carton in baking projects, but nope, definitely will not purchase again, not when there are so many delicious protein options out there.
Using chopsticks is the only way to prevent myself from inhaling my food in two bites. I’m like a dog, I swear.
ps – I would have been duped by that almond milk too; it sounds so good! Thank you for giving us a headsup about it.
So many reasons to love chopsticks! They slow down my inhalation process too, plus they’re just plain fun!
LOL….please tell me what tofu dilly dip is!!
Posting a recipe tomorrow π Stay tuned!
I’ve never seen that high protein milk, but now I’m glad I haven’t seen it. Thanks for the warning – surprising to hear!
Right? I didn’t think it could be bad–I mean, almond milk is almond milk, right? But apparently wrong. Oh, well. It was worth the try, now I know.
I’ve developed a love of almond milk ever since I started a vegan diet!
You’re a myth busting machine!
I’ve refused to buy/drink that almond milk. It never appealed to me. Thanks for solidifying my hunch. I’ve been sticking with their unsweetened coconut milk. I want to cry at $4 a piece, but it’s the most neutral milk I’ve found.
No coffee?! I only drink it because it’s hot, too. A lot of mornings I’ll drink a mug of hot water. How’s that for odd?
High fives for weird coworker looks. I get them all the time. I get equal amounts of “what IS that?” in good and bad tones. I like to keep them on their toes.
I love regular almond milk (esp. almond breeze), but woah was this one off the mark. I tried coconut milk once and wasn’t a fan, but I think I need to give it a second shot (although not at $4 each, yikes!). Nothing wrong with hot water! My office is so cold, I live off of it (well, hydrate off of it).
I’m lucky to find non-dairy for less than $3, soy, almond, or otherwise. It’s nuts. I picked up some $3 soy tonight for the added protein boost now that I”m back to smoothies full-time. We’ll see how that works out. It’s been awhile.
Thank you so much for the shout out Allie! So happy you enjoyed the recipe! π You always have the most creative ways of writing your posts! I love it! Always makes me laugh and smile! Have an awesome day girl!
Keep posting fantastic recipes and I’ll keep giving you shout outs π LOVED the muffins!
Ohh I’m going to check out those corn muffins!
just discovered your blog and loved reading your posts. Looking forward to read more π
I’ve been craving a good corn muffin and begging my momma to make them [call me on it, I’m feeling lazy] π What almond milk to you usually drink? I’m a big fan of Silk soymilk but am interested in trying almond milk, just hesitant and def don’t want any of that oh not so delicious stuff you got!
Almond breeze is my favorite, and Silk brand isn’t too bad either. I usually get whichever of those two is cheapest/on sale when I’m at the store ;D
Thanks for the heads up on that protein milk. I was thinking of getting it and now I won’t even try it.
