Cel-e-brate good times, come on! This is one glorious What I Ate Wednesday, folks: The first WIAW in which I am eating the fruits of my own labor.Β Err, gardening labor, that is.
Labor fruits, form of: Lettuce! My first leaves were ready, so I had to do what anyone does with lettuce. Make a salad. But who am I to do salad the right way? Screw you, greens, I’m going purple. And pink.
Behold the beauty of beets, cabbage, lettuce and salmon. Everything tastes better when it’s outdoors. And farm fresh.

What food epitomizes the start of summer for you?

Why am I not surprised we are on the same wave length today. My WIAW is about farmers market finds and the beauty of colorful produce.
I am so thrilled with your purple lettuce and your salad making skillz. Look at you, creating lines of lovely lusciousness. I love it. Rock on with yo’ bad self!!
There’s a party going on right here…a celebration to last throughout the year.
Nothing, because I don’t have summer. Waaaaambulance.
I love colourful food! Plus, anything purple is really healthy too. Totally need to cook those purple sweet potatoes that I have π
There really aren’t enough purple foods in the world.
Summer for me is peaches and watermelon. I have had a good melon but still too early for peaches. My granddaddy grows them! Cheers to homegrown!
Short of blueberries, I sort of hit a wall after these few. I guess there’s purple kale, purple chard, etc., but that’s just getting technical. Plums? Can you convince your granddad to grow some of those too? I love peaches, but hate the fuzz, and haven’t eaten them since I moved out of the house and couldn’t make my mom peel ’em for me first any more. It’s now been a long time since I’ve had a peach…
I love these colors! That lettuce looks amazing.
“eating the fruits of my own labor. Err, gardening labor, that is.”
I love the implication of eating babies here. A+! π
Gorgeous! I love eating all sorts of colors.
Man I am on a beet kick lately, love them.
My post today can add to your purple-powered plate!! I need to get my hands on some beets–it’s been a little while, and I love them!
Okay, I had never heard about purple sweet potatoes and now I have TWO comments about them! Clearly a sign that I have got to track these things down…
WATERMELON! WATERMELON! WATERMELON! Oh lordy, I’ve started putting on the water(melon) weight already. π
Now. I am having strange cravings for beets.
And I had lettuce sprouting. Then it rained torrentially for two days. I was pretty sure my lettuce was going to drown. I tried to drain the planter…and ended up dumping the entire contents into the actual flower bed in front of my cottage, where I think I might have accidentally now begun a new lettuce patch. We’ll see.
Finally, a difference! Phew, I was getting a little freaked out by our twin-hood ;D I’m totally a cantaloup-over-watermelon gal.
That is the most organized looked salad I’ve ever seen.
The desire to drink gin and tonics is usually the start of summer for me!
I may or may not have already had one or two of those this season π Perfect summer drink!
Purple foods are definitely prettier to look at…and they keep our memory strong :)! I’m still amazed at your gardening skills, my friend! Barbecue anything epitomises summer for me….and of course ice cream π
Haha. Even when you eat salads you do it with your own pizzazz. Lol.
Homemade produce just tastes so… “Productive” π Your purpley salad looks great!
Heck yeah!!! Woo hoo for homegrown eats!!! That’s some mighty fine lettuce, lady! π
Start of summer…my first watermelon! Can’t wait!
Mmmm, purple (red?) cabbage is always a winner in my book
Basically, summer food is when you can eat everything raw imo! π π AWESOME homegrown foods btw! You are so green-thumbed!
