For those who were interested in the vegan pumpkin cheesecake I posted about yesterday, I’ve been told it was loosely based off this pumpkin cheesecake pie recipe from The New York Times.
My accountability challenge saga continues. Thanks to the amazing Electra for putting this together! An update on…
Week One: Fitness Goals
Run my warmup mile in 8 min.
- 11/23: Walked 4 miles.
- 11/24: Rest day. Thanksgiving!
- 11/25: 7:50
- 11/26: 7:59
- 11/27: 9:02
- 11/28: 8:11
Add new moves into my workouts: Decline pushups, reverse pushups (love love LOVE).
Keep running in the morning. This has been a failure, but a rain-based failure. I’ll make myself run in 20 degree weather. 35 and pouring? Nope.
Enjoy the holidays, responsibly. I stuffed myself on my favorite–stuffing–but overall ate really well and kept up with my workouts.
Week Two: Fitness Log
I’ve been hauling my notebook to the gym and am actually keeping track of what I’m doing fitness-wise. This has made me push myself harder, organize my workouts and set up challenges for the next time I’m at the gym. A sample (and barely legible) upper body workout:
I learned that I don’t like logging food, as I eat well in general and keeping track every day made me focus too much on what/how much I was eating–not in a good way. So while I will most certainly continue with logging my workouts, I’m going to drop the rest.
November Success
You can go ahead and ignore everything above this, because the really important news is that… I won NaNoWriMo! Darn right I now have a 50,000 word crappy novella!
What do you think about logging food/writing novels? Have a favorite exercise I should try?
Congrats on the novel!!! What’s it about?
Haha, ohhh, I wish I could answer that question. It started out as a boy struggling to find his identity, ran through some abrupt changes in plot, and ended up being a man vs. The Corporation-type fantasy. It most certainly isn’t good, but it IS written, and that’s really step one, isn’t it?
Yay!!!! YOU WON!!!! Congratulations. I hope to win tomorrow. 🙂
I hate logging food. It’s soooooo boring and tedious. I’ve never managed to log more than a few days in a row.
You can do it! And glad I’m not the only one that found that food logging just didn’t work for me.
Congrats on NaNoWriMo!
I know logging food works for some people, but I’m not a fan. It can be a bit too obsessive. I do think logging exercise would be really helpful for me because I always forget what weight I was using.
The exercise logging is really helpful, especially if you have some end goals you’re trying to work towards. I think that was half my issue with food logging–I don’t really have an overall goal there, so it was just paying too much attention with no real purpose.
Congrats on winning my friend, that’s awesome! 🙂 and way to go with the fitness loggin, I always find it pushes me more too.
Thank you! And it’s definitely helping me to define goals and see what I should be working towards.
Wow, congratulations, what an achievement! And by that, I don’t just mean the NaNoWriMo, I mean those reverse pushups… 😉
Hee hee, it sounds like you’re rocking the fitness… I think setting goals and being more accountable for them would get me more motivated; I just need to motivate myself to set the goals!
Haha, I don’t know if I’m more impressed with the writing or my ability to do reverse pushups either 😀 And I say go for setting those goals! It is definitely a HUGE motivation to get moving/do more.
You finished the novel?! Can we get a little excerpt?? Pretty please?
Oooh, it’s pretty awful, but I could probably arrange something. Or maybe I can pick out some of the really atrocious sentences I wrote that make little to no sense and do an amusing “lowlights” rather than “highlights” recap of my nanowrimo adventures 😀
I just looked at the reverse push up.. that is cool!!
Oh my goodness congratulations, what an achievement 🙂
Oh wow yay for you! You should post some! I find food logging is boring, and makes me look at food in quite an unhealthy way. I end up thinking ‘oh dear maybe I shouldn’t have eaten that banana because it pushed me over my calorie limit’ which is not a good way to be thinking about it.
Exactly! It was worth a try though, since I know it works for some people. Live and learn.
Congrats on NaNo! That’s a huge accomplishment. I think you should let us read a piece of it for funsies!
I’m jealous you can do the reverse push ups. Since I don’t have the gym at my disposal anymore, I’m having to modify them. Can you do the ninja jump? Where you try to jump to your feet from your knees? It’s in http://www.bodyrock.tv/2011/06/20/fat-burning-poker-face-workout/ and http://www.bodyrock.tv/2011/04/11/hard-bodies-getting-harder-workout/. I can do it maybe once, and it’s hard and awkward. That’s totally my new goal.
I love ninja jumps! They’re such a mental exercise–I end up spending forever kneeling on the floor trying to convince myself I CAN jump up like that..and yeah, I think two is my max, and they certainly aren’t graceful.
Ninja jumps are my FAVORITEEE hands down! Maybe I’ll put up a video of me doing them! They rock!! 🙂
That’s funny because I’m like the opposite! I’m great at logging my food but not good at logging my workouts!
Congrats on winning- you are awesome, girl!! I love logging my workouts- it gives me a sense of pride to write down my achievements daily, regardless of how great a workout was…it all counts! As for logging my food, I got into a habit of it when I was losing weight so it’s 2nd nature for me now, although it’s a lot more loose whereas in the past I would right down every morsel that went in my mouth !
Thanks! And I think I was being too strict with it, looser food logging would definitely seem less obsessive, but again, I don’t really need to do it, so I think I’ll save it for another day.
I’m loving your notebook of weight recordings. Mine’s totally the same.
I need to get back on the logging wagon, especially with food.
Come hang out with us during the Holiday Accountability Challenge! Allie is rocking it and so can you 🙂
You rock! Look at those sub-8 times! You’re killin’ it Allie!
I’m super excited that logging your workouts has helped you push harder and organize yourself in the gym – it will definitely help you move towards your goals quicker! And it’s so great to see your accomplishments like increased weights and reps written down! WOO!
I’m also so glad to see that you’re evaluating how logging food worked for you in your mind. If you feel it’s better for you not to do so, I am really proud of you for realizing that it creates unhealthy habits for you. Awareness is key to figuring out how best to get to where you want to go. Way to go girl! LOVE it!!! 🙂
well done on your win, and for the fitness log!
