If you couldn’t tell by my Fuck That post, as of Friday I’d had enough of last week. So I made a last-minute decision to skedaddle out of the city, visit family and let it all go for the weekend.
While I don’t want to look back on the beginning of the week, it ended up being a weekend totally worth reviewing–and linking up to Meghan’s Week in Review.

I let go of some weird alcohol ban I’d placed on my life.
And found my new favorite mixed drink in the process.
My lack of willingness to drink seemed to come from a good-health-decision place but was really coming from an uptight-can’t-let-go-of-anything place. Getting tipsy on negronis on a perfect sunny day? It’s a good thing.

I let go of the idea that every meal has to have protein.
Or moderation. I mindlessly snacked on half a box of crackers with half a jar of PB. For breakfast.
I felt ill afterward. It was totally worth it. Can’t remember the last time I’ve snacked for a meal. Or eaten without thinking. Yes, mindless eating is normally viewed as an “unhealthy” thing–But for me? Victory. Salty, creamy, crunchy victory.

I let go of the idea that I just can’t do yoga.
And broke out my old “textbook” for the yoga class I took years ago.
Yeah, I was a little bored and had no idea what I was doing–but so what? I’m still glad I took the time to flop around on the ground. I also recognize that proper yoga practice probably isn’t described as “flopping around on the ground.” But we’re all unique. You do yoga your way, I’ll do it mine.

IΒ let go of the idea that I have to go to the gym to work out.
I opted to stay at home for a dance-around-in-my-underwear “workout.”
Forget traditional HIIT, have you tried gettin’ low recently??
—
I let go of my grocery budget.
Haha, just kidding. I LOVE A GOOD SALE!
Plus I needed to restock anyway.
—
All in all this was a weekend full of relaxation, successes and little victories. No, it wasn’t perfect, no, letting go wasn’t an easy or constant thing. But hey, a start’s a start.
I love you! Let’s get together, get drunk, get low (no joke, that song is like the anthem of my college years! Haha!), and OD on peanut butter together! Hey, you busy this Friday? No, seriously? You busy? Because Heather needs some BISCUITS!! π
YES! I will text you ASAP and we can get us some biscuits!
Ha, I like this. I recently started having protein-free snacks – at first it felt so wrong given everything we’re taught but surprise, surprise, the world hasn’t ended!
Right? Ate a box of crackers and peanut butter A WHOLE DAY AGO, and it turns out? I’m still alive. Huh, go figure.
It’s great to have restrictions in your life, but you have to let go every now and then or you’ll crack!
Exactly! There’s a time and place for rules, but it can’t be all rules all the time!
Dancing around the house is the Best exercise I know of! I don’t do it in my underwear because it just isn’t pretty! π But I love it! You found that PB for 79 cents?!?!? I’m jealous. Never heard of a negroni but I think I could like it! Hang in there!!
If you like bitter drinks, you’d be a fan! I usually don’t like mixed drinks at all, but this one just has so much refreshing flavor! (And a whooole lot of alcohol… ;D )
Your timing for letting go of your “weird alcohol ban” couldn’t be better. Be prepared to get low and maybe try hot yoga, which is something I’ve been wanting to try because I’m always cold, so I like it hot.
Dance parties do wonders for the mind, body and soul and so do at home workouts. Check out some Pinterest type stuff too. Easy list like (giddy) charts that actually turn out to be a great workout. I love it when I kick my own ass at home. I’m glad you said Fuck It on Friday.
Hot yoga is something I could get behind for the hot part alone, too. Is there a hot yoga option where you can just chill in a chair in a hot room for awhile? No? That’s a sauna? Oh.
And as long as good beer and bitter mixed drinks exist, no alcohol ban can last for long around me…
Uggh… I hate the whole idea that you need to go to the gym to workout Such a lie π
I’ve had a whole Gangam Dance workout with my mom where we just jumped around the house for a good hour. That was a true workout π
Oh for yoga, there’re all the iPhone apps for it now where it puts together a yoga workout for you. They’re pretty cool π
I definitely get that “must gym” idea stuck in my head! And a mother-daughter dance party? Adorable π
that is a killer sale, I can always count on you to scope out the good sales like I do. I think getting low is the best kind of workout. get low.
Food tastes even better when it’s cheap π
I always have trouble letting go, but tried to do the same this week too! Good for you π
YES to letting go. Sometimes its just necessary for sanity you know? Good for you for just taking a break!!
And no matter how hard I try I just cant get into yoga. I do it because I know my broken down body needs it, but Im literally counting down the minutes till its over. I love the noodly feeling after, but Im so bored during it!
Glad it’s not just me who feels like she’s just watching the clock the whole time in yoga! But yeah, I know it would be a good thing for my body/brain anyway…
Ahhh that glass is so cute!!! What do you think about those peanut butters? I tried the banana nut one but I didn’t love it. Let me know what you think!
I wasn’t blown away. It was just like a-little-too-sweet crunchy PB…with dried cranberries in it. I think I was expecting more?
Is there any other way to dance to Get Low? I’ve yet to find away.
I’m glad I could drink with you from across the country. Solidarity from afar totally justifies day drinking.
Snacking for a meal? Totally just did that. Meat + cheese + wine + Michelle = β€ 4ever
Hah, I loved our afternoon of Campari-drinks. And I love how you eat. Classy, but not TOO classy.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaay you are my hero! I had my first weekend of “loosening up” and it was surprisingly anticlimactic (I strangely didn’t want to eat an entire pizza) but also strangely introspective – what do I WANT to eat? If I could eat anything what would it be? I had never asked myself before and hadn’t a clue. I spent a long time in the grocery store.
LOVE THAT SONG. I insisted that we play it at our wedding party. Chris was like, “Do you think it’s inappropriate?” and I’m like, “The old heads won’t know what ‘skeet’ means” and he’s like, “Yeah…but they’ll know what ‘sweat drop down my balls’ means.” bahahaha! We played it anyway.
Yoouuu played Get Low at your wedding?? Why wasn’t I invited to this magical event??
And oh my gosh, deciding what I want when I’m trying to not worry about what I SHOULD be eating–it really is so difficult!
Totally gonna brag here – we played the BEST music. Nelly, Missy Elliot, Ludacris, Outkast, Biggie. Plus a couple hours of old school soul/funk. So fun! You will be VIP at our next wedding π
I am not a fan of yoga either, but good luck with trying to get back into it. And 79 cents for a jar of pb, awesome deal. I’ve tried that kind before and wasn’t too impressed, I just stick to my favorite which is TJ’s sunflower butter. I made my own a few weeks ago and while really good, TJ’s is the best.
Mmm, I love TJ’s sunbutter! And yeah, this one wasn’t my favorite PB, but for $0.79? I’ll eat it π
A weekend of letting go can be unbelievably therapeutic! Glad you were able to do so! π
I like this post and the idea of letting go. I’m glad you did so and were able to forget about everything but the moment you were in. π
how do you do it?!? 79 cent peanut butter?!?!? Color me (seriously) impressed. Great job just letting go and being. You rock!
Ahh, I just have skills…and/or access to some great ghetto-fabulous grocery retail options π
Amen to letting go! I love your alternative workout π Dancing is most definitely a cardio for me!
love this post!! so glad you let go and enjoyed some things you hadn’t for awhile!! And protein free snacks and/or meals are awesome!! I have been eating massive amounts of almond butter and salty rice cakes!! I can’t get enough…..like a jar enough! π
Letting go is definitely worth celebrating…and naturally calls for adult beverages :)! Love this post, Allie- getting rid of self-imposed bans feels kinda empowering, right. Every time I feel nervous to do something that feels counter-intuitive to “good health”, I remind myself that I am doing it for my mental health…and yes that sometimes mean snacking instead of sitting down to a meal, overeating at dinner or having a drink “just because”!
I am IN LOVE with that Kroger peanut butter. It helps that it has only been $2, but also it somehow manages to be both insanely chunky AND creamy at the same time, while also having the perfect amount of salt…and no other added ingredients like they always put in the “healthy organic” peanut butters. Forget that. Kroger rules.
Also, tell me about that Nutrition. I’m curious how they get the granola to stay crunchy with all the peanut oils. (I’ve tried it at home. It didn’t work out for me.)
Congrats on having alcohol back in your life, even just a little!
79 cents for the PB?! HOLY COW I AM JEALOUS!! That’s awesome.
But really, I need to try the Get Low workout hahah. Epic.
I love that you’re letting go! I bet it feels SO good π
