It’s been mentioned before–I’m a morning person. And not just any old morning person, starting at 4am morning person. Why? Because there are so many good things about the morning.
Like Breakfast.
Who doesn’t love breakfast?
The prospect of fresh eggs from my chickens with a side of baked homegrown sweet potato makes it hard to stay in bed.
Like Lamp.
I love lamp.
Time spent soaking up some fake rays and thinking quietly gives me a good dose of “me time,” starts my day off right and is really helping with my usual winter struggles.
Like books and coffee.
Mmm, coffee. Mmm, books.
I’m still in love with both of Trader Joe’s seasonal coffees–gingerbread and wintry spice–and what goes better with coffee than a little reading?
Like the gym.
I’m there when the doors open at 5 and so is my morning gym crowd. We lift, we laugh, we try to understand each other over language/accent barriers, we tackily wear booty shorts and knee-high socks. Oh wait, that last one’s just me.
Like being prepared.
Food=my favorite.
When you need to bring second breakfast and lunches #1 and #2 to work, a little time for last minute assembly comes in handy.
Like being done for the day.
By the time I’ve gone through all this, I’m done with the (not-actual-job-work) work part of my day. I just get to slide through 8 hours in front of a computer, and then the rest of the day is mine to spend running errands, hanging out with friends and watching too many episodes of Six Feet Under (I’m hooked).
Do you have a morning routine? What’s your attitude toward mornings?
I love coffee too, love coffee. I also think there is something about having your 5 am crew, I wish I had workout buddies like that.
Haha, it’s pretty fun, and makes me even happier that I live in the weird ethnic “lower” area of town–I never chatted/got to know anyone at the gym when I was living in the ritzier areas!
I LOVE Six Feet Under. I want to watch them all again…
my morning routine is pretty standard, starting with juicing a HUGE batch of juice for Jason and I (and a few spinach leaves in Basil’s bowl…), a run on the treadmill or a visit to the gym, back home to get ready for the day and eat breakfast number two or part two… walk Basil and off for the day. today is a work at home day, so it’s a slightly different routine. it’s a Dad doc appointment day – so I bring my laptop and work there if possible! 🙂
I love lamp. I don’t think I have a seasonal need for one, but I think I’d love it!
I just bought the entire series off of Amazon, you should come over and rewatch with me 🙂
And my lamp is totally awesome, needs aside, nothing like bright, calm time in the morning!
My only claim to being a morning person is that I get up at 7am everyday, including the weekends. I don’t really operate at full speed in the mornings.
Haha, I make no claim to being up-and-at-em immediately either–there’s a reason I wake up at 4 but take an hour to get to the gym at 5 ;D
I am absolutely a morning person, loveee it! I’m also an early to bed person [if time permits] 😛 I love taking the time to pack lunch and making a filling breakfast, all while enjoying copious amounts of coffee 😛 I got on a routine for a while of going to the gym in the morning and it felt so. freaking. good. knowing that at the end of the day I could drive home and do whatever I wanted, not head to the gym… I’d love to get back into that!
Yes! Glad to find another morning person! I don’t know what I’d do without my coffee time. And yep, it’s not that I particularly love working out in the morning, I just love NOT having to do it in the afternoon!
I am totally a morning person! But my mornings are up and out of bed and onto my treadmill to run! Just reading about how relaxing your morning is made me feel more relaxed! And I am right there with you…it’s nice to get the ‘work’ done so that after WORK you can enjoy your evening! I hope you have a great day!
Woah, just reading about your up and at ’em morning makes me impressed! I definitely need my hour to get going–the relaxation is just a nice side effect 🙂
Mornings are my thing. I love them and prefer to enjoy them solo with a cup of coffee, my things to do list, a little blog writing and silence. It’s when I get myself together both physically and mentally, and if I didn’t have to go to my real job, it’s when I accomplish the most too. The downside of being a morning person is I’m ready to pass out by 9:30 p.m. Oh well, small sacrafice, I say.
I’m so glad you got the “lamp” and are really enjoying it. I generally start taking a vitamin D supplement this time of year, but I want one of those lamps. They’re supposed to be great.
I love you have chickens which are now providing eggs, and you rock out at the gym in bootie shorts and knee highs.
Ahh, coffee and silence! That definitely IS what’s best about the morning–thank you for helping me put a finger on that silent bit–as soon as I arrive in the office (we have an open floor plan), it’s noisy chaos for the rest of the day.
And pfft, in the winter 9:30 feels like midnight anyway, since it’s been dark since 4pm. I can’t say enough good things about my lamp–and yup, Vitamin D.
One day, oooone day, I’ll be a morning exerciser! I would LOVE for that to be my daily routine..but sleep and I aren’t very good friends, so I struggle to fall asleep most nights and can’t get up early. grr! Horrible cycle!
Eggs for breakfast is theee best!
Right? I keep thinking I should be a bit more creative with my breakfast, but then I think, “eggs.” Yup, not changing that up any time soon.
You know I’m not a morning person. The winter makes it even worse since I’m too cold to get out of bed. I’ve even started exercising after work. If left ot my own devices, I’d probably be nocturnal.
Hey, then we’d probably be up at the same time! Me waking up at 3am, you going to bed at 6am 🙂
Ahh, morning is my favorite! I’m the most hyper in the morning and I get a lot of stuff done. Also: “We lift, we laugh, we try to understand each other over language/accent barriers, we tackily wear booty shorts and knee-high socks. Oh wait, that last one’s just me.” —–> hahahaha
I’m definitely the most energetic/hyper then too! I love my evenings, but they’re usually spent doing things like reading or watching tv–AM is when I get things DONE!
I used to be a morning person and get up at 5am but for some reason I’ve been getting up at 7 lately. Bummers…I do love waking up early- during the summer for running before the heat or during winter to get some extra studying done lol! Really need to get myself back on track but it becomes difficult on days when I get back home at 11ish and end up staying up late :S
7 is still pretty darn early for most folks! And yeah, there are definitely benefits to being an early bird in the summer, it gets too hot to do anything outdoors here too!
Tasty way to start the day!
I loved 6 Feet Under! But I don’t want to get up at 4. AT my worse, I was getting up at 5. That was bad enough…now, 630 is like a dream.
It’s now 6.45am and I’m sitting here with my porridge and coffee (both essential) I’m such a routine person, can’t cope without half an hour of waking up with the above every morning! What lamp’s that, I’ve got an alarm with a light that comes on slowly to simulate sunrise, is it that sort of thing?
I’m hooked on my routine too, I don’t know how I’d start my day without it! And the lamp’s a sun lamp which is supposed to (and so far does!) help with SAD in the winter.
Before I started on the night shift, I was a morning person, but now I’m back to being a night owl. Although I have to say my “mornings” (around 2-3pm) are pretty productive. I’ve finally gotten a good groove…gym, home, meal, food prep, and then some time to just chill before I have to get ready for work. Love taking a bit of time just for me before the day gets started!
You’re just a differently-scheduled-morning person 🙂 Neeeed that me time before the chaos of work/office/etc.!
Morning is good for me! I’m usually awake by 5am. Some days it’s earlier, but I roll with the punches. My recent plan is meditate first. Then turn on the coffee (if I hear it dripping it distracts me…dumb I know) Then it’s coffee and computer work. Then the exercise bike (wish I was as ambitious as You!) and reading. Then I start on whatever project I’ve laid out for the day. That’s more flexible and not always as productive as the earlier part of the day!!
Not dumb at all–coffee always distracts me too ;D I have to make mine first before I sit and sort-of meditate in front of my lamp, or all I’m thinking about is my coffee. Hmm, I may be slightly addicted…
This post just made me want to like mornings. Good grief… what time do you get up? And what is lamp? I think I need one of those.
4am! Ohhh yeah. Not-even-crack-of-dawn-yet. Lamp is my sun lamp–to help out with SAD–just got it a few weeks ago and I’m absolutely loving it.
Sweet potatoes and eggs! I want. I need to add something to take your lead and start having breakfast #2. I don’t like to eat lunch until I get back from the gym, and sometimes I am starved.
May or may not be my favorite breakfast. I ran out of cooked sweet potato, so this morning was eggs and oatmeal. Not nearly as good. And even before I started eating ridiculous numbers of meals I always did a breakfast #2, I just need my food in the morning!
I was hooked on Six Feet Under as well! I started watching it when Bravo aired the all the seasons and I had just gotten a DVR..so this had to be about 5 years ago? I had to be careful though because I kinda got a little morbid watching it…like slightly obsessed with death and how I would die…Yeah…not a good thing. But all in all, a fantastic show!
I LOVE the morning. I don’t know how people wake up and rush directly off to work. Since my job in elementary school starts fairly early compared to the rest of the world, I don’t have quite as much time as most, but I still get up earlier than I need to so I can meditate over making my oatmeal and coffee and ease into my day. 🙂
